Hair loss can be caused by various factors such as genetics, aging, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune reactions, stress, and chemotherapy. The leading treatment is pharmacotherapy, but it also has limitations. Traditional compound screening using 2D cultured cells does not accurately reflect in vivo reactions and morphogenesis, and what is required is a culture system that reproduces tissue reactions and morphogenesis closer to those in the body.

Here, we would like to introduce a paper titled "In vitro hair follicle growth model for drug testing" published in Scientific Reports. In this study using PrimeSurface^® plates, the successful formation of hair follicles and hair peg-like sprouting was reported through a combination of cells and matrix.

This method has demonstrated potential for evaluating hair growth promoting agents. Although improvements are needed for the formation of mature hair follicles, this research can be said to have potential impacts on hair loss treatment and hair regeneration medicine.

This is Takashima (an Osaka native) from S-Bio Business Division. Quite a sudden topic, but have you seen the Kansai/Osaka Expo character “MYAKU-MYAKU” in striking blue and red? Unfortunately I have heard some people say, “Looks weird!” or “It's not cute at all!”.

However, for those of us who have been involved with cell business for many years, we feel very proud of this lovely character, which is composed of a red upper part that represents cells and a blue body that represents clear water.
