Study on environmental hormone using NSC spheroids
This month, we would like to introduce a paper published in Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology: Proteomics and disease network associations evaluation of environmentally relevant Bisphenol A concentrations in a human 3D neural stem cell model.
While bisphenol A (BPA) is widely used in the manufacture of plastics and adhesives, its effects as an endocrine disruptor are of concern.
In this study, we evaluated the effects of repeated exposure to 0.01, 0.1, and 1μM BPA on neurodevelopmental abnormalities and brain disorders.
A neural stem cell (NSC) 3D spheroid model suitable for evaluating the early stages of brain development was made with PrimeSurface™ V bottom plates and used for the evaluation; while BPA exposure reduced spheroid size, there was no significant difference in cell viability, suggesting that BPA may affect the molecular mechanisms of NSC proliferation and differentiation. Quantitative proteomics revealed new findings indicating changes in the expression of proteins with important functions in the proliferation and maintenance of NSCs, such as factors related to the Wnt signaling pathway.
