The limits and ethical issues of animal testing in drug discovery have led to the focus on microphysiological　systems (MPS) as alternatives to animal testing that enable more accurate evaluations.

Today, we highlight a new MPS platform developed by the research group of Professor Kimura at Tokai University. This device, which enables medium perfusion between wells without the traditional pump-driven system, is based on a 24-well plate and has achieved high usability.

We are participating in AMED's project focusing on developing key evaluation technology aiming at industrialization of regenerative medicine and gene therapies, and are actively working on the development of MPS device using plastic surface treatment and precision processing technologies.

Since 2022, we have been collaborating with the authors of this paper to develop this innovative platform for co-culture. This platform is expected to be a powerful tool for studying inter-organ interactions and a universal platform for drug discovery research.
